AUTOMATIC WASTE SYSTEM
A system able to automate waste collection.
Users insert waste bags into loading stations located in strategic areas of the neighbourhood or inside buildings; through a network of pipes waste is then managed by pneumatic transport to a central collection point. Special blowers generate a depression in the pipe system aimed to create an air flow which conveys MSW towards the central collection point. Waste is transported at a speed of up to 70 km/h over distances as long as 2 km. Once inside the central collection station a cyclone separates the air used to transport the waste, while a compactor reduces its storage volume. “Activated carbon” filters (for foul odours elimination) and “bag” filters (for the removal of fine dust) purify the air used in the transport before releasing it into the atmosphere. The compacted waste is placed in special containers (divided by different waste types) which are periodically collected by transport trucks.
The central collection station, where all devices which regulate the functioning of the system are located, can be built above ground or underground and is easily integrated within the urban environment. The dimensions of the central station are correlated with the number of housing units served and with the types of waste collected.
