The biggest and most modern project in the Spanish public healthcare sector
STARTING REQUIREMENT

Transport the hospital trolleys dedicated to the catering service, reducing labour costs and the hospital’s property maintenance costs and preventing the service from being outsourced as a manual activity.

SOLUTION PROVIDED

The New Alvaro Cunqueiro Hospital of Vigo (Spain) is Spain’s biggest public healthcare project, completed in a record time of 31 months. The hospital chose Oppent’s solutions for the automated management of internal logistics operations. In particular, the fleet of mobile robots consists of 6 ECART model 1, which carry out all of the movements requested with respect for the timeframes and covering a total of 420 km a week, equal to around 630 working hours. The vehicles have four wheels, one motorised traction wheel and three drive wheels: the latter three are odometer wheels, fitted with sensors (encoders) which transmit information on the movements of the vehicle to the onboard PC; the traction wheel is also fitted with an encoder which is only used for the safety of the vehicle. The 6 ECART are also fitted with a motorised rotation system with front and back wheels that work simultaneously to ensure correct mechanical transmission. This allows the vehicle to stay very tight when navigating bends; additionally, thanks to its bidirectional kinematics the mobile robot can even rotate about its axis, thus reducing the amount of space it needs when manoeuvring. Thanks to the particular layout of the wheels, the vehicles guarantee perfectly uniform behaviour when moving both backwards and forwards, without any need for additional manoeuvres. 

AIMS
  1. Move around 250 trolleys a day, weighing up to 500 kg, over a period of 15 hours, for 365 days a year, in a 4-floor hospital with around 800 beds
