ILVA
ITALY - Taranto
THE HANDLING OF SAMPLES TAKEN FROM THE CASTING IS SAFELY CARRIED OUT THANKS TO OPPENT'S SYSTEMS.

The ILVA steelplant in Taranto, the biggest in Europe and among the largest in the world, was built in the early ’60s. Its throughput originally was 3 million tons per year, later increased to 4,5 million tons in 1970 and 11,5 million in 1975. In 1995 the Riva Group, today the largest producer of steel in Italy and third in Europe, acquired control of the Ilva Group’s companies including the plant in Taranto.
The solution Oppent realized for the Ilva steelworks in Taranto is a pneumatic transport system which connects the production area to the analysis laboratory. Now operators work in full safety: special high temperature resistant carriers handle the samples taken from the castings to the laboratory, relieving employees from transportation duties through the work areas.
